Training

• Doctoral researcher in psychoanalysis at the Global Centre for Advanced Studies, Dublin, enrolled in 2026. My research concerns Lacanian psychoanalysis and creative arts therapies.
• Completing a Diploma in Expressive Arts Therapy at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, expected in September 2026.
• Pre-clinical training with the Psychoanalytic Therapy and Research Centre, Mumbai, in the Tavistock tradition: a Psychoanalytic Infant Observation, a Young Child Observation, and Clinical and Work Discussion seminars.
• In 2025 I presented a paper, The Psychoanalytic Function of Instagram Reels, at the Freudian Research Seminar Series at the Freud Museum London.

Writing

Before any of that I was a writer, and I still am. My story collection Principles of Prediction is published by Westland Books in India. My stories have appeared in Granta, Adda, Internazionale and Scroll.in.

I was a regional winner of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Asia in 2012 and again in 2017. I held a writing fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, and received American Short Fiction’s Stars at Night award in 2017. I hold a BFA in Film from New York University, and an MFA in Creative Writing from the New Writers Project and an MA in Gender Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.

Where I work from

I work online, from Mumbai, which means the practice is open to people anywhere in India and elsewhere. In-person sessions can be arranged in Mumbai.

Regulation, and what my credentials mean

Is there a register for psychotherapists in India?

No. India has no statutory register for psychoanalysts or psychotherapists. Two registers exist for neighbouring professions. The Rehabilitation Council of India keeps a register covering a defined list of rehabilitation professionals, clinical psychologists among them. The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021 set up a second framework, covering psychologists other than clinical psychologists along with several named counselling roles, and it is still being brought into effect. Neither names psychotherapy or psychoanalysis.

Membership of a professional association is not the same thing. An association can set standards for its members. It cannot place anyone on a government register, and it should not be described as though it had.

What this means for you is that the titles carry no legal guarantee in India, and that you have to judge a practitioner by their training instead. So mine is set out above in full. I am not a clinical psychologist and I am not a psychiatrist. I do not diagnose and I do not prescribe medication.
