Lacanian Psychoanalysis Sessions
The first meeting is an opportunity for us to discuss the problems you are facing. You’ll have space to speak about whatever feels important, and I’ll explain how I work. I don’t charge for the initial consultation. And there’s no expectation that you continue beyond this meeting. It is a preliminary consultation to understand if and how we can work together.
What is psychoanalysis?
Psychoanalysis works primarily through speech. It begins from the idea that something of the unconscious finds its way through free association, dreams, symptoms, and so on. Analysis makes room for that unconscious expression.
Psychoanalysis is different from other forms of therapy because I will not offer advice or generic solutions to your problems. Instead, I will support you in arriving at your own unique solution. If talking seems difficult at first, I would invite you to use art or writing to express yourself.
The consultation
Our first meeting lasts 30–50 minutes and takes place online.
There’s nothing to prepare beforehand. I’ll ask questions to understand what has led you to reach out. At the end of the preliminary conversation, I’ll suggest how we might proceed. The first meeting is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, and to get a sense of whether my way of working resonates with you.
Confidentiality
Everything shared during our conversation is held in confidence, just as it would be in ongoing therapeutic work.
